Nosodes

A nosode could be described as an "oral vaccine" in the sense that its purpose is to "immunize" the body against a specific disease. It is prepared from the actual organism which is associated with the disease in question, and may derive from filtrates containing only the exotoxins of the bacteria, or from emulsions containing both bacteria and their toxins. These filtrates are then potentised a million times to produce the energy only of the disease and this energy stimulates the entire natural immune system to react against a specific disease, so this becomes an oral vaccine for humans as well as pets.

Here at Clynalwin we treat our dogs with Nosodes for Canine Distemper, Infectious Canine Hepatitus, Canine Parvovirus, Leptospirosis and Canine Infectious Tracheobronchitis under the guidance of our holistic vet at the Oakwood Veterinary Centre, Oswestry, Shropshire.

Our Puppies are given a conventional vaccination (DHPPI/L) at 14 weeks of age then 4 weeks later a second Lepto vaccination only.   We start the Nosodes at 8 weeks of age so we are able to socialise in the normal way at 12 weeks of  age.

Why we aren't using conventional vaccinations on a regular basis …
Dogs do not require annual vaccinations for all the core disease's .. Over vaccination is harmful to our pets more details can be found here CLICK HERE

Apple cider vinegar is an excellent item to keep in your pet supplies. It can help improve health, control pests, and ensure general well-being of your dog. It doesn't cost a lot and it works well, so it is definitely worth giving it a try.

Apple cider vinegar is a product filled with minerals and essential vitamins, including magnesium, potassium and iron. The best apple cider vinegar is that which is fermented and unfiltered because it has "the mother" (a stringy substance) which contains the most enzymes and minerals.

What we do … We use it regularly. It is said to help prevent skin rashes, skin irritation, tooth decay, infections, and tear stains. The best way to give apple cider vinegar is to dilute it well in water or food (we add it to food 3 x a week).

We have also used Apple Cider Vinegar when cleaning out ears, simply soak a small cotton ball or piece of clean cloth in the vinegar and gently wipe the ears as carefully as you can. The anti-bacterial properties of apple cider vinegar make it ideal to clean dog ears out.

You have to make sure however,

Do not use apple cider vinegar around the nose, mouth, or eye areas; it can result in a burning sensation and do not apply to open cuts or wounds. Use common sense; if it would hurt you, it will probably hurt your dog. even if the wound will not be touched think it is better to be safe than sorry.

Coconut oil contains a medium chain fatty acid primarily composed of Lauric acid. This nutrient is believed to be the ingredient that contributes to the health benefits of coconut oil. Coconut oil is higher in Lauric acid than most foods. The only other abundant source found in nature is breast milk. Lauric acid plays a large role in keeping infants from getting viral, bacterial and protozoal infections. In much the same way, coconut oil can help your dog with specific ailments and contribute to overall health.

Nutritional Benefits

Coconut oil is used as a nutritional supplement for overall health because of its infection-fighting properties. Dog owners who feed coconut oil notice improved coat condition and reduced allergies. Feeding coconut oil can also help protect your dog against skin cancer, reduce age spots, prevent osteoporosis and manage diabetes. Dogs with digestive disorders are often healed and nutrients are absorbed better due to improved digestion. Despite its reputation for being high in cholesterol, dogs with coconut oil in their diets actually experience improved cholesterol levels.

How Much we Feed

When incorporating coconut oil into our dog's diet, it is important to start slowly. Because coconut oil rids the body of bacteria and other harmful invaders, it can cause detoxing symptoms.  We work upto giving 1 tsp daily to all our adults.

When purchasing coconut oil, remember that quality is greatly important. Higher quality products typically cost more but are a worthwhile investment. Unrefined or virgin coconut oil is the most common used.

Natural Alternative to Chemical Wormers

Why give your dogs chemical wormers and put insecticides on them when you don't need to?

The advent of the Internet has given people the power to research and learn a lot more than they were able to do so years ago. The consequence of over use of chemicals (vaccinations, wormers, insecticides etc.) has meant our pets have paid a high price. More and more people are looking for natural alternatives and Diatomaceous Earth is one of them, however, not many people are aware of its many benefits.

If Vets had their way they would have you treat your dog monthly with something like Frontline and/or Advocate. My dogs never get treated with anything like this and I always avoid chemicals whenever possible. I came across Diatomaceous Earth last year and have since been giving it to all our dogs daily as a wormer and general supplement. Why don't vets sell it? DE is a cheap natural product and you do not need a consultation or prescription for it, consequently, there isn't any money in it for vets or pharmaceutical companies.

DE is made from unicellular algae-like fossilized water plants called diatoms, these have been around since prehistoric times and are mined and finely ground. Besides containing approximately 3% magnesium, 33% silicon, 19% calcium and 2% iron it also contains approximately 15 trace minerals essential to our well-being. DE is particularly beneficial for growing youngsters.

There are numerous benefits from taking DE on a daily basis. It can be taken daily by humans, dogs, cats, poultry and farm animals for eliminating worms and as a general supplement.

Other benefits include:

DE is a natural detoxifier and as it goes through the system it attracts and absorbs: bacteria, fungi, protozoa, viruses, endotoxins, pesticides, drug residues, E-Coli and heavy metals.

It can be used externally to:

Other uses, and there are many, vary from being used as a teeth and metal cleaner to removing pests from garden plants.

As DE mixes with water there is never a build up in the system, consequently, to get the maximum benefit it should be taken daily.
